Do we use hinges on our looms?

We respect that there are different ways to build a loom. As the original creator of the Chunky Blanket Loom™ since 2020, we’ve spent years refining our design and have chosen not to use hinges — for a few reasons.

The main reason is that hinges limit you to using the full loom, even when you don’t need the extra length. Instead, our looms connect securely with a single screw, creating a strong connection designed to support the weight of a growing blanket. Join loom extensions only what you need, when you need it.

When we tested hinge-style joints, we found the loom had a tendency to fold while making a blanket. Small hinges are not built to support or sustain weight and torque of a growing blanket, particularly when installed near the end of a board or into end grain. Over time, they eventually can fail. 

All of our looms are intentionally designed in specific lengths to maximize blanket sizes and are part of a complete system that grows with you. Fully compatible with the Pivot & Slide System, they offer flexibility without compromising strength.
